How do they work?
Metal braces are very strong and can withstand most types of treatment. They consist of very small metal brackets (attachments) that are glued to the front of your teeth. A metal wire is attached to the brackets and held by ligatures. There is a wide range of ligatures available, ranging from transparent to silver (to match the metal braces) and to a variety of colours.
The length of treatment with fixed braces varies but is typically around 18 to 24 months. Fixed braces are stuck to your teeth for the whole of your treatment.

It is true that some foods are easier to manage with braces than others, but you won’t need to make enormous changes to your normal daily diet. To begin with, it’s best to stick to soft foods and avoid anything hard or chewy while you get used to wearing your braces.
